I'm super excited about this, for years and years I only had a lousy VHS copy, then the lousy VHS-ripped DVD... and I was still blown away. Now these screenshots look fab.

Norah Palmer (Anna Cropper) is a television script editor who temporarily moves to a remote English country village to rebuild her life. When she becomes pregnant to the handsome villager Rob, she begins to suspect the locals of conspiring against her, preventing her from leaving the village for her home in London.

With its combination of unsettling folk rituals and insular regional communities, Robin Redbreast is considered to be an influence and precursor to The Wicker Man (1973), and has built up a cult following over the years since its original broadcast.

Made during the golden age of British TV drama, and originally shown in the Play for Today strand, this provocative and unsettling drama was directed by the renowned producer / director James McTaggart from a script by John Bowen.

i've seen it, it's one of the coens lesser works: very boring and no good performances to keep you interested. no turturro, bridges, buscemi/no party, as they say. goodman has a cameo role but even that's boring. i guess it's just a badly thought out project. or maybe they peaked after fargo and lebowski?

I liked it ok, since I had low expectations anyway.

I think it really brought home the fact that spawning boby was the only reason that anyone is (or ever was) remotely interested in that whole late fifties/early sixties village scene.

looks like it exists in two versions: al directing wilde's play and al directing himself directing wilde's play (bit like an "in search of oscar". like he did with richard the third probably). this stuff is more or less unwatchable unless you're a film student, studying literature at university, a masochist. an al pacino completist, you want to see jessica chastain's tits...

there's nothing wrong with the play, by the way, i remember seeing a wonderful tv version in the late 60s/early 70s. very thought provoking, very erotic. it can be done but probably not by al.
