most of the stuff i've been posting recenty was suggested by the charlie gillett book, sound of the city, which i'm reading at the moment. it's not very well written and he gets his, "58 to 63 shite pop scene", argument wrong (maybe he invented it?) but it's full of interesting information about little known artists who usually turn out to be great. worth looking at. johnny bond, hot rod lincoln, 1960: www.sendspace.com/file/p3a4v3and here's a cool page about car songs which is so interesting it's almost unreadable: www.rockabillyhall.com/HotRodLncln1.html

"why dont they make songs like this anymore?"
it's either cos lennon refused to record "how do you do it" and insisted on "please please me" or cos boby did something which only he knows about (and quite possibly only exists in his head).
as michael used to say, take your pick.

most of arthur alexander's records - which include: anna, you better move on, hundred pounds of clay, soldier of love, shot of rythm and blues - were released in that 1958 to 1963 window that boby considers absolute shite.
i guess it must have been great listening to pete playing his fucking banjo in some church hall every night and missing out on all the super cool black sounds coming out of your radio 24/7, right?

excpet for those fucking boring 30s bluesmen like charley patton and blind willie mctell, bob never knew a thing about black music
from the 50s until the mid of the 70s, black music was probably even better than rock'n'roll

"it's either cos lennon refused to record "how do you do it"
maybe brill building and all that was going down the swanny anyway by this stage. how do you do it is a piece of shit. ive got my own lyrics to it - "you look like a fish in a barrell, pissing in it"

thanks cripey! I was counting on you or nick; looking forward to hearing them... here's something in return - I know you have these, on that 27 or whatever box set of the complete twickenham & apple studio '69 sessions, but for other non-torrent cnuts, here's rhythm & blues and sure to fall, it was nice hearing them doing it the same way as in Hamburg '62, loving you is the natural thaaang to do...rhythm: www.sendspace.com/file/oc6xensure to fall: www.sendspace.com/file/y0v18c

That set 'A/B Road' is like 82 CDs. I dutifully listened to all of it except for the very last session the day after the rooftop. I looked at the tracklist and saw many many versions of 'Long & Winding Road' and I had to just let it go onto the shelf....even I can only take so much.

just checked my box set - it's actually "the best of twickenham & apple sessions", and it's "only" 17 cds, but I still had the same trouble as you getting through the dozens of takes of "the long & winding road"... however, I know from some sources that they did some pretty cool stuff there that I don't have, and it's not even on the "sweet apple tracks" or the "black album"... like other versions of "Commonwealth" and "Hi ho silver"... might PM you for a request or two...
downloading Arthur right now; for Johnny says "page not found"...

for Johnny says "page not found"...
Goddammit! I'm fixing it--try it again in a few minutes.
might PM you for a request or two...
PMs are gay. Ask me on the board. Also, if you're making request from the Get Back sessions I'm gonna need the recording date. I'm always happy to help.
