as regular vistors to ManhoLand© know, one of the manho themes is cultural deprivation. take the great chris kenner song (he wrote it with the legendary allen toussaint, by the way), i like it like that. did us pathetic englanders get to hear it in the early 60s? no we did not. we got these cunts singing it instead: www.sendspace.com/file/0pizwlyep, it's the tottenham sound. the dc5. what was the tottenham sound? well, think farm. think barnyard animals farting, squelching and thrupping. here's the guys on video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_gAtHOoX9Mwww.youtube.com/watch?v=sH2Ggx2blZ4ManhoLand warning: the above videos are not suitable for children under the age of 13 or old cunts with fragile dispositions.

Haha...the first thought that crossed my mind when I was listening to the Chris Kenner record was what cunts the Dave Clark Five were. It was all bombast really....suburban hooligan stuff.

I caught a double feature the other night. They showed the final episode of Top of the Pops, followed by a 1 hour documentary on the show. I had no idea how lame that shit must have been, I'd always assumed that it was cool. I mean, there were a few good groups they had on, Beatles, Stones, Bowie, etc..., but there was a lot of lip-syncing going on too. And the Osmonds and Spice Girls and that kinda shit seemed to be their ideal. Anyway, it looked like American Bandstand, but 100 times gayer. The presenters were almost always hyper-annoying (John Peel excluded of course), the vibe I got was the most un-hip people in the world were trying to put on a hip show.

in the 60's/early 70's it was pretty cool. beatles, stones, kinks, t-rex and jimmy saville. then the douches started taking over television.

Yeah. Believe me, our US charts weren't always littered with greatness. But Dick Clark(American Bandstand, sorta like TOTP), although he was no James Dean, never juggled apples with a zany happy embarassing flavor like those TOTP people. It's like anything good that was on Top of the Pops was by accident, or at least against the grain. I don't really know for sure, I'm just basing it on that special I saw, but those presenters were like sunlight on the musical vampire of cool. Sorta like Don Kirschners Rock Concert, but that was a late night show, midnight on Friday maybe, and the guy was a straight, he didn't pretend to be cool.

jimmy saville was great. from the programmes ive seen, TOTP got pretty bad in the 70's and then in the 80's it was douche city central.

"TOTP got pretty bad in the 70's and then in the 80's"

after 68/69, all the great artists forgot about singles and concentrated on albums. the charts turned into shite so TOTP just reflected that.
punk made a bit of a comeback for the single.

this is a great one. about the time clockwork orange was released. who was influencing who? the old grey cunts hated roxy cos they didn't understand what was happening. but look how cool bryan is. he's actually wearing a naff old grey whistle test badge. that's just about as cool as you get. you're destroying the whole ethos of the show but you pin the badge on. way to go. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWfXqae1NzA

My mother had this 45 by Alan Arkin that she enjoyed. I've been looking for a copy for most of my adult life. When I first got a computer and started doing eBay I put this 45 on my list. It took something like 2 years but now it's part of the Cripes collection. It's a cool song too. I wish I could transpose this stuff to mp3 but I caint.

all you need to transpose your stuff is a normal turntable (which you probably have anyway), the correct adaptor to plug it into the usb socket in your computer, and a program to copy the sound (dag can help you there).
