" ... the path for King, Weil and Greenwich was arguably paved by Rose Marie McCoy. One of the most influential songwriters of the 50s and 60s, she wrote hits for Elvis Presley and Ike and Tina Turner and, as a black female songwriter from the American south, had to fight harder than anyone to get her songs heard." elvis, trying to get to you (written by rose marie mccoy & charles singleton), 1956: www.sendspace.com/file/h2tq7xnappy brown, don't be angry (written by rose marie mccoy & fred mendelsohn), 1955: www.sendspace.com/file/mrfudamccoy also wrote the first big hit for ike & tina turner, i think it's gonna work out fine: one of the greatest r&b records ever recorded. i've posted it here in the past so i won't bother this time. anyone who doesn't know it can probably find it on youtube.

"Sippie Wallace, one of the original "red hot mamas" of the '20s and '30s vaudeville circuit, cut her first record ("Up the Country") in 1923; rediscovered in 1965 and performing again, she is joined here by the Jim Kweskin Jug Band": www.sendspace.com/file/7ody06

Ooops, sorry digit - no idea how I've missed your post... and it's not even one month old! Even worse, I've posted just below you there. I usually read all your stuff, in fact I usually read everyone's posts here, but anyway, thanks again. Great little tune, innit? Hey, Bob's playing in Ireland in july...

I still like Nat King Cole's version more, but Johnnie does quite a good job with it.

Never heard Burke's 'Cry To Me' before. Has more of an 'Under the Boardwalk'/'Stand By Me' thing going on than the Stones' version.
