Who thread here.
Saw the new doc on VH1 the other night. Good stuff. Not near as epic as 'The Kids Are Alright' and there is some overlap from 'Kids' but not too much. It comes off more like a VH1 Behind the Music special, but there's a lot of ace footage I've never seen before, so it's a worthwhile watch.

i was in brighton in august and happened to be strolling past the famous quadrophenia alleyway so i popped in for a look. bad news, it's just a normal alleyway with some mod graffiti on the wall. good news, it hasn't been turned into a "matthew street experience".

I was planning on doing a 'The Quadrophenia Alley--A Closer Look' article, but I guess I won't.
Looks like Best Buy has an exclusive bonus disc of a '79 concert when you buy the Who DVD from them.

"how was the parade?
hehe"
do you mean gay pride? every major city in the world has gay pride (apart from maybe the shitholes you tend to live in). if i'd said new york, london or rome you could have made the same "joke".

One mistake I caught on the tv edit of the thing was that they said the Quadrophenia shows were the 1st shows for the boys in 13 years or something save for the Tommy deal at Radio City. Guess they forgot the whole fucking tour that followed that show.
I remember hearing somewhere years and years ago that the keyboard intro/etc in Baba O'Reilly was Moon, guess not. That was cool. Anyway, looks like I gotta check out the complete 3 disc package.
Oh yeah, after the hour long thing (I saw it on VH1), they ran this "Classic Album" special on Who's Next. It even included a few bits of the same footage from the other thing. The bits on Lifehouse were great- everybody going "Nobody had any clue as to what Pete was on about with that one".

One of the features on this Who thing is this great footage of them from '64 at The Railway Hotel. It's the earliest known film of them (they were called The High Numbers at the time) doing 'Ooh Poo Pah Doo' and The Miracles 'I Gotta Dance To Keep From Crying'. Fuckin' embryonic stuff. Psst, nick....can you check if this is floating around?

Nah, ashamedly I have never seen the Who live. I hadn't really been a big fan of there's until Moonie was gone, after that I thought what's the point? The Amplitheatre was a horseshit place to see concerts, although there was a lot of historic things that happened in that place. I think the 68 Democratic convention was there if memory serves me. And we all know what happened there. Modified to give this link to the Amplitheater. Funny thing is it had a bunch of presidential conventions and all the nominees lost except Ike in 52, but that's only cause the Amplitheater held both Dems & Republicans conventions that year. It was win-win or should that be win-lose situation? Nixon had his there in 60 about 4 months after I was born. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Amphitheatre
