here's something special as a christmas tribute to all the cool guys who hang out here. in the 80s in england there was this comedian called jasper carrot. it's useless trying to explain jasper to americans but let's just say he was birmingham's lenny bruce and leave it at that. jasper had his own prime time national tv show and every week he had a guest who seemed like he'd dropped in from mars. loudon wainwright. i think loudon was living in england at the time and was desperate for work. anyway, loudon's spot on the jasper carrot show became the not to miss tv moment of the week. here's an example of what loudon presented to the british mainstream tv audience once a week till someone finally realised what was going on and told him to get back to the folk clubs. loudon wainwright on the jasper carrot show, talking ronnie reagan blues: www.sendspace.com/file/zvljeucoke, right?

"Roma, trovato il corpo dell'irlandese annegato durante la piena del Tevere Vincent Wall, 27 anni, era caduto nel fiume nella notte tra il 12 e il 13 dicembre. Il giovane era venuto a Roma per un matrimonio. Probabilmente era ubriaco"
a couple of weeks ago an irish guy visiting rome fell into the tiber and died. they found his body today. in the report they say "The young man was visiting Rome for a wedding. He was probably drunk."
hehehe... there was no irony intended in that "probably". they just don't understand the irish enough to know that a 27 year old irishman in rome for a wedding who falls into the river and dies is "certainly" drunk.

"Friends of Mr Wall, including David McGrath (25), said the party were on their way back to their hotel in the early hours of Saturday morning when they stopped to take a look at the heaving river"
irish man, early hours of the morning, river in flood....he hadnt a chance.

much as i appreciate the compliment it's obviously the juke box that brings them in (just need to look at the number of hits). my guess is that people have the juke box thread bookmarked or linked on sites and they just check in to read that one thread.

They're individual IP addys though, which makes that figure seem kinda high... It must not be a fluke though, now it's at 135. Good for you guys. That is some respectable traffic for a small forum.

Various people may visit, but only the regulars post. So nobody has any idea who these lurkers are or how they found out about this place. It's a little weird, to be honest.
And if they have just the one thread bookmarked, they miss out on most of Nick's mp3s. Their loss.

it is strange. even if you do a search for island jukebox you come up with loads of links to desert island jukeboxes but none to here.
ok, on page 2 of a you tube jukebox search we get a link to here on the bottom. still though, where are all these people coming from all of a sudden? 139 guests now. somebody on a popular messageboard must have found us and as nick said, posted a link to the jukebox.

That was probably the day that Expectorating Rain had the link to the '65 press conference.

As I said--that seems like a lot of people. For just any ol' day? I need to figure out how to put a stat counter on here. It would be interesting.

"still though, where are all these people coming from all of a sudden? 139 guests now."
It's the fucking Proboards. Nothing new... same thing used to happen regularly on another Proboards msgboard where I was a mod, 200 "guest visits" per day, when in reality there were maybe 7.

I forgot what it was exactly, but it definitely had something to do with the bogus IPs... yo Chris, wuzzup! Wer'e 30 now... remember when we used to celebrate in the chatroom when we turned 27? Then 28? How we outlived all those suckers from the '27' club? And now we're old.

I've always thought the Coke ads on the back page of National Geographic were high art. Happy holidays LOL
