Okay, I e-mailed Expecting Rain. I'll let you know if there's any answer.

E-mail bounced back from Expecting Rain. It looks like either the address isn't current or his inbox is full.

Hi! My name is Dag, and I'm a 28-year old English student and stand-up comic from Norway.

I hate it too. Can't seem to disable it. There are a lot of dipshit defaults in these ProBoards templates. I've been able to disable karma ratings, birthday announcements and a load of other Jr. high school stuff, but the burning envelopes are here to stay unless there is some lurker expert out there who could clue me in on the secrets of Pro-boards. Don't have a solution to this just yet, but, if you want to get fancy, you can go: Admin menu -> skins/forum colors -> "customize images" -> select "default" If you scroll down to the "folders" category, there are fields where you can put a url for a substitute image for both the red and yellow burning folder gifs. You could use a little Cripes face or something. Or make a little sign that says, "holy fuck, look at all the posts"

Thanks for the tip chris. Too bad you can't just make them disappear. Looks like that option only replaces one graven image with another. Perhaps I can do a load of different snoids.....

you could probably insert a word - or just a full stop - in white typeface which wouldn't show up against the white page.

I've got a solution. Use the method I describe above to set the "burning folders" icons to the regular folder icon. I uploaded it (the non-burning folder) to imageshack, just throw this url in there: img66.imageshack.us/img66/604/threadei6.gifNot sure why I didn't think of that earlier.

You can do all that shit in the "skins" menu, which is unfortunately a little hard to manage. The basic color scheme is inoffensive enough.

That 'skins' thing stumped me. Fuggit--like you say, this is ok enough. Life's too short. There are only so many dorky things I can do in a day.

For future reference: admin menu -> skins/forum colors -> modify skin -> select 'default' Say you wanted a fancy textured background, it's just a matter of putting another image url in the "background image url" field. The other stuff is just colors. The problem is the color palette they give you is just off-putting... You can enter your own color codes, I think. A good guide to color codes: www.december.com/html/spec/color.htmlIf you're ever, like, bedridden for a few weeks or something.

I liked it better when I didn't notice the background colour . . .
