Protestant countries would like to be as crooked, but they're just not as good at it . . .

Chug-a-Lug by Roger Miller is the boss of that bunch. The way the words follow one another....that's as good as it gets.

"Chug-a-Lug by Roger Miller is the boss of that bunch."
you wouldn't be saying that if you'd heard the kenny lynch song. kenny's stuff is just about the most difficult music to find online. i've been looking for his version of misery for years. you just can not find his stuff. his singles are so rare that they have absolutely no value whatsoever. each and every one of them was thrown away within a week of purchase so not even one 45 of any song exists today. thus no digital transfers.

I'd take the song by the Butterflys, a Jeff Barry-Ellie Greenwich Brill Building classic, as the pick of this bunch, though Let It Be Me runs it close. I also really like the Hondells video. But Chug-a-lug is cool too . . .

Jan & Dean - The Anaheim, Azusa and Cucamonga Sewing Circle, Book Review and Timing Associationfrom this link"Anaheim, Azusa and Cucamonga" - On the sitcom THE JACK BENNY SHOW/CBS/1950-65 (and on radio) Mel Blanc played a Union Depot train caller who announced via megaphone or loudspeaker system the trains arriving and departing from the station. For example, "Train leaving on Track 5 for Anaheim, Azusa and Cuuuu-ca-mon-gaaa!" After repeated announcements, the train caller continued "Look we're not asking much. Two of ya, or even one of ya...just somebody to keep the engineer company." And still later "Please, please! I'll get fired if I don't get somebody on the train for Anaheim, Azusa and Cuuuu-ca-mon-gaaa!" For comic tension, the show's writers often experimented with the pause placing it between "Cuuu" and "Ca-mon-gaaa." Once a whole comedy skit was inserted in between the pause. TRIVIA NOTE: In February 1993, the California town of Rancho Cucamonga, made famous by Jack Benny's long-running gag, erected a statue honoring the late comedian. 'Come A Little Bit Closer' by Jay & the Americans is my pick for this week. The sixties were a multicultural fucking decade, I'll tell ya what.....

Good info there. I was wondering what the hell Jan & Dean were on about.
My pick for the week would be Sinatra singing Softly, As I leave You. I've posted two other versions of the song (by Mina and Matt Monro), both of which I like a lot, but Frank does it best.

Beatles '65 came out in '64 too.
I guess they all had their eyes on '65 back then.
They should have been stopping and smelling the beautiful roses of '64.
