for those who missed to click on my link above - it's Bowie doing the same thingy as Pete.
and how cool is that chord progression? Pete was doing G-D-C I believe, Bowie is C-G-F.

"What are the chances that Pete Townshend listened to that Eddie Cochran single once or twice?" good point about that intro, man. so that 'ukcharthits' user is you? edit: nah, it cannot be you; profile page says he's in UK. anyhow, just stick to his link and be sure to copy & paste all the stuff here. thanks man, you're doing a fantastic job. www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=ukcharthits

yes! New Okudzava vid! (too lazy to re-start the Russian thread) Check out the first song, "Poslednyi troleybus". One of his finest works, still a huge hit in France for instance, covered later by many artists, etc. This looks like the early 60-ies to me; check out the typical russian 7-string guitar; the chords are AM, E, C, G, Dm, but he's using different patterns, as the russian guitar, as I explained in the old place, is tuned here we go -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=DF5WrFP6BYA&feature=relatedthe translated lyrics (never good as an original, as usual): www.poetryloverspage.com/yevgeny/okudjava/midnight_trolley_bus.html

haha, never saw this before - I was only 14 at the time - Jarmush, Depp & Partibrejkers ("Partybreakers", Serbian cult band from the 80-ies, I know the lead singer Cane really, really good) in Belgrade's famous club SKC in 1992 (saw many fine bands there myself) - I have no idea how this came about, I think it was because of our Kusturica who was at the time making "Arizona Dream" (1993) with Johnny.* Johhny's first words were "hello" in Serbian ("zdravo"), then he goes on with some Serbian curses ("zayebi sve" = "fuck it all", "sve je to pickin dim" -pronounced: "sve ye to peechkeen deem" - now that sounds nasty when translated ("it's all a cunt's smoke"), but it's an idiom meaning "it doesn't matter at all", "it's all worthless", putting something down... ). they're all quite sober, of course: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1C574mkfnc*I was right, just googled it out; february 1992, FEST (traditional Serbian Film Festival), Kusta brought them.

thanks for the torrent link... of course, I've meant the colour footage only, and the 2:10-2:40 sec on the 2nd clip - wonder what was that about, them singing "That'll be the day" without instruments, looks like some ad hoc moment at some press conference?
