probably most of the great artists are single minded in their vision, so they dont stop till they've made their masterpiece. like, beefheart worked his bands asses off to get trout mask.

curtis could have done some more good stuff but i have a feeling he ran out of ideas. he produced quite a few great songs in a short period of time. like the beatles in a way in that JD released singles that were not on albums.
he probably would have left the band anyway had he not committed suicide...think he wanted to own a bookshop...
