la repubblica has the trailer for the new scorsese doc on the stones: www.repubblica.it/low down on the right hand side of the page you'll see a foto of scorsese. can't do a better link than this cos it's a sort of pop up window with no http adddress.

the valentinos (bobby womack on vocals), it's all over now: www.sendspace.com/file/iphumb"Bobby Womack, who wrote the song, hated what the Stones did with it, but when he got his royalty checks, he lightened up and tried to get the Stones to do more of his songs. 20 years later, he was a guest musician on their Dirty Work album"

bit unfair describing the pretty things as stones clones. you could make out a reasonable case for saying the stones were copying the pretty things. all that stuff about the stones being considered the dirty group while the beatles were fluffy and clean is true but the pretty things were considered to be animals compared to the stones. they were the true proto-punks. here's their big hit. don't bring me down, 1964: www.sendspace.com/file/cst87dthere's a pretty hefty ps here, too. the pretty things' s.f. sorrow (released in1968) is considered by many to be the very first rock opera. they were the real thing, i guess. if only they hadn't been so boring.

and, of course, the pretty things took their name from this song: www.sendspace.com/file/tqxyyolet's hope bo gets some extra sales from these little recognition posts. not that he needs the money or anything but his fame can never be as great as it should be. i checked him out on wikipedia to see if he's still alive and i discovered he had a major stroke last may and it stopped him touring for a few months. he was 79 last week. still on the road. way to go, bo. keep surfin', man.

For any of you Ronnie Wood fans out there I can highly recommend the autobiography called Ronnie. It was probably my 2nd favorite R'n'R book I've read just slightly behind Full Moon. It has a lot of great stories from Faces days and the Stones. There is one glaringly obvious mistake though. Check out this:
"He told me that a bunch of blokes were putting a band togther and intended to call themselves the New Yardbirds. Peter said, " They want you as their guitar player."
Well, I'd met a few of them up at his offices, including the rude drummer John Bonham, who reminded me of a farmer, bassist John Paul Jones and the harmless enough Robert Plant, and I told Peter, "no, I'm happy where I am thanks."
He doesn't even mention Jimmy Page who was the first guy in the damn group...hahaha. I wonder where he got that story from?
I hadn't noticed any other unbelieveable stories though.

I'm only really interested in Keef's autobio (coming out in 2009 I think), but thanks for the tip, zill...

There's a lot about Keith in the book. I think any real Stones fan should read it. But that's just me talkin'.

It's an alright book, but it reads like a grade 5 book report. "Jeff Beck was a loser, but I met Rod, and we were good friends and we drank a lot and then I joined the stones and met Keith and he's my bestest bud. I drink a lot. The end."

seeing the fotos of the stones with scorsese reminded me of what i don't like about them. like, after all this time the bass guy isn't a member of the group? and all those years they had the piano guy behind the curtain cos he was ugly? and they kick out brian cos he takes drugs?
they're a business package, not a real group.
