re the stuff on tony sheridan:
i can confirm that sheridan was a lot more important than history gives him credit for. that hambug book i read during the summer is more or less a sheridan biography. he was huge in germany and he was an interesting character, too. he was a tough guy, a great guitarist (he could also play lead if i remember correctly), a good singer, a great performer, and above all he was a rebel. all things which must have enamoured him to john.

Thing about Tony Sheridan was that he was a bugger for the bottle all his life.

thing that comes across in the hamburg book, tho, is that he did have talent. and the beatles obviously realised it.
he was part of the late 50s english rock and roll scene along with johnny kidd and vince taylor. did some early tv work (oh boy, 6.5 special) but he was a difficult personality. fell out with all the important people. he was a thief. stole a guitar from somebody, that sort of stuff. a petty criminal, really. like lennon.
his big problem was that he was from norwich.

"thanks, Fingal O'Flahertie Wills, mind if I call you Bruce?" you mean, "just to keep it clear"? you can call me Milan as well, after all, they even named the football club after me.

musically speaking, the chorus in "i want to hold your hand" is the same as the chorus in hattie carroll - F, G, C, Am. 6 days separate the recording of both songs, if im not mistaken. maybe thats the "first time around" ?
