bobs finished as a live performer. doesnt really matter what songs he plays. Hmm, I think he's more finished as a writer. I'd pay to watch him perform Led Zeppelin 3 or Are We Not Men?, but not the dreck he's currently slopping out. playing led zeppelin 3 or self portrait or trout mask replica would definately be more interesting than the current stuff.

I'm with Steve on this one. The Stripes are one of the best bands of this decade. Do they ape a bunch of oldies? Sure. But so does Noel G. They take an old style and update it for us young kids. You old people can go listen to stairway to heaven again. I'll take seven nation army.

When I was young(er), I hated Led Zep . . . and I still hate them. I quite like the Stripes though. Go figure.

the stripes are ok. i kinda like one or two of their tunes. seven nation army never did anything for me. in fact it used to be played everywhere and bugged the hell out of me.

message for steve and david and some king: is it just the general sound of the stripes you like (wailing singer, loud 12 bar blues) or are there quality songs there? i've listened a few times but everything sounds like boring noise to me. could you give me 5 great songs of theirs that i should listen to that would convince me how good they are (forget the famous one, i know that)?

"boby has a serious fear of being forgotten."
There's no chance of that happening.
I think it's more like a need to stay relevant, which is obviously becoming more and more difficult for him.

Little Ghost is a good one.
review of Duluth GA show from my neice, who isnt burned out on Bob. shes seen 10-15 shows since 02.
Okay! I'll write the review, but I don't know anything about new arrangements and all that stuff since I haven't heard any of the other tapes... I can just tell you if I liked it or not. Oh, and I don't know about that Denny - he's a stiff! He hardly played anything interesting! So, Amos Lee was pretty boring. Decent voice, but generic music. I didn't like it; Jay liked it a little. Then Elvis came on and made the show worth the $70 ticket. He was really good, he sounded good and he used all 4 guitars they had out for him. He did Red Shoes, Veronica, Alison, and a few others I don't remember or didn't know - and some political songs that few people in Duluth, GA appreciated! His voice is amazing! Oh yeah, he did Jackie Wilson Said by Van the Man! Then Dylan came on and did Pill Box Hat, which I don't ever remember seeing. I thought it was good. His voice sucks, and everybody knows that, but I could at least understand what he was saying. Don't Think Twice was kind of boring, but I like the song so I didn't mind so much. Watching the River Flow used to be my favorite song (when the only album I owned was greatest hits 2) so I was happy he played it - but I thought it kinda sucked. The band was good. Just Like a Woman... eh. I'm bored with the song. I never really liked it. The crowd liked it. Rollin' and Tumblin' was really good, I thought. It's the first I've heard off Modern Times, and it happens to be one I like. He was dancing. It was fun. Spirit on the Water is my new bathroom song. Just as bad live as it is on the album. The band even looked bored playing it. Nice and long so I have time to get to the bathroom and back, too. Hollis Brown was great, I don't think I've seen it before. It was the only semi-surprise of the night and I liked it. Stuck Inside Mobile was good, too. I always liked the song, and his voice was ok. Jay said his voice didn't warm up until about the 4th song, but I didn't think it was too bad. I've seen much worse. The band rocked on this one, too. Honest With Me = boring. Enough already! Workingman's Blues was so good! Maybe because I like the song so much, but I thought he did really well. Sometimes, he even sang (rather than growled) the lines! Highway 61 is always good, I guess. I'm just tired of seeing it. Nothing special, but not terrible. Nettie Moore is my favorite song on MT, so I was very happy to hear this one. I thought it sounded great, crowd loved it. It sounds good live! Summer Days - I've heard this one a lot, too. At least it's good live, but his voice struggled through this one. Masters of War was boring, he forgets the words everytime I hear him play it (or maybe I just couldn't understand him). I hate this one. Thunder on the Mountain was good - maybe Jay's favorite of the night. Not the best of the MT songs, but still better than most of what he played. All Along the Watchtower, blah blah blah, who hasn't heard that? The crowd always likes it, though. Even though LARS is a 20 point song for me, hehe, I sure as hell didn't miss it! The wolfman voice bothered Jay a lot. It ended up being a pretty boring set considering the Nashville shows. I spent the whole time looking for Jack White! And even though the setlist was boring, I still thought the show was good. I'm easy to please, though. I know everyone's going to get the tape and bitch about it, but I'll take that show over some others I've seen any day! I've seen him come out and stand perfectly still for 2 hours - you couldn't even be sure it wasn't a stand-in! But Saturday he was lively and seemed into it. Besides, the arena was nice and the crowd was pretty good. No talking, everyone stood and sat at the same time, a lot of people knew the songs. We had floor seats and I had trouble seeing over heads. Next time, we'll get seats in the stands so we're elevated. The place is pretty small, so there really aren't bad seats. How do I have so much time to write this review, you ask? Well, at my new job, I sit here all day and surf the internet. Of the last 3 weeks, they have had about 5 hours of work for me to do. Yep, getting paid to do nothing....
