Jan & Dean - The Little Old Lady (From Pasadena)
I was in first grade Catholic school in 1964. I still remember most of the dirty schoolyard poems that went around. There was a lyric substitution made where the word 'Pasadena' was rhymed with 'big fat weiner' and said 'little old lady' possessed such an apendage.
Yes folks--I remember 1964.

That wasn't the high holy art treat I was thinking of, but it will do . . .

I'm guessing that the future Mr. Blood, Sweat & Tears (big thanks to Al Kooper for making that miracle happen) was covering the John Lee Hooker song. I bet DCT did it with gusto.
It's only midway through '64 and The Beatles were already shifting into 2nd gear.
Badass!

Yep. It was the John Lee Hooker song. Just the idea of David Clayton Thomas singing it fills me with horror. Mind you, the idea of David Clayton Thomas singing anything fills me with horror . . .

Okay, thanks to Nick I've now heard Boom Boom, which sounds a lot like the Animals, except not as good, since DCT's voice is less than half the size of Eric Burdon's. His slow and bluesy version of Tobacco Road is better. Neither are exactly classics, but at least they're not as awful as that Blood, Sweat & Tears dreck.

Ronnie & the Daytonas - G.T.O. Gene Pitney - It Hurts To Be In Love
With Joe Meek's other big hit Have I the Right? more Fabs and some TJ Brass, this might be the best ever so far sixties pop hits week. All other pop hits weeks can kiss the week of August 1, 1964's ass.

The Tokens - He's In Town
Great song--I don't think I've heard it before! I was sucked in right away with the falsetto...looked it up and I find it's another Goffin/King jewel.

Boy, there's a fistfull of classics.
My fave of all of them is A Summer Song.
Time has proven that Chad & Jeremy were and are way better than Peter & Gordon. Without Paulie feeding Peter Asher songs they'd have been just a couple of dopes.

I was very disappointed not to find a vintage clip of Chad & Jeremy doing A Summer Song, but they still sound pretty good.
