either:
behan was pissed off coz he was first to use a war theme with that tune
or he had subconsciously lifted the tune from staffords version. he argued that he had first recorded "the nightingale" to the tune of the patriot game in the 60s, but stafford did it first. according to heylins book "revolution in the air", he wrote a letter to the guardian in 1985 about this after other letters had claimed he had stolen the tune first. be interesting if they could be dug up...

here is another nice behan tune - liverpool lou www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDWfg3N4cRAheylin missed out on this one. the second song boby wrote after god on our side (according to CH) was "liverpool gal" and sixth song was "gypsy lou". liverpool gal he never recorded. clearly, he was toying around with another behan song.

rory gallagher's grave (for cat) oliver reed's grave is not far from there. i was helped over the wall into it by a drunken reed lookalike in the village....(long story)

the gate was locked. i went into the pub where reed used to drink, o'briens, and 2 locals there knew how to get in...was there on hols. cool place.
