Saw Paulie on his "new" tour a few weeks ago...it was fab-oo as always, and it was great to see some of the chestnuts he pulled out of the vault like 'all together now', 'lovely rita' and 'your mother should know' (and hi hi hi and mull of kintyre for those of us who love wings), but...he also did Mr. Kite. Which is fine, since he's been doing john songs for a while now, but now he's claiming he co-wrote it. Is this a new thing? Can he just get away with saying he cowrote everything now? This bothers me probably more than it should.

'Mr. Kite' was an odd choice for so many reasons. Since Pepper is being represented well with 'Lovely Rita'....'Kite' is just a lesser song. I saw him do it on TV and it was ok. It was kind of like when The Beatles first came out and you didn't know exactly who sang what all the time--it all just sounded Beatle-y.
He should do 'She Loves You'.
If that was in the set list I'd go to Golden Gate Park next week and fight my way through the fucking humanity to be right up front.

kite is actually a good song stripped down but all that circus shite distracts from it. i presume paulie used backing tapes on it.
its one of the most complicated pieces of music from the modern era (probably caused brian wilson headaches) so he may have wanted to see if he could pull it off as a 70 yr old. as for co-writing it, its possible since they were still meeting up at john's house to go through material at this point, although he certainly never mentioned this in the past, would be interesting to see what he says in "many years", havent got it to hand at the mo.

A quick shout out to Sept. 9!
Hard to believe it's been four years since the fab remasters came out.

Looks great, thanks for the tip... I remember when I bought the first volume back in '94, '95... I was still in gimnasium and original CDs were quite expensive for me... hang on, they still are... anyhow, buying this for sure... cheers O.

my first beatle album was bbc, I was a student with no money and it was best value coz it had most of the early hits and a few of the quality album tracks not available on "1" like all my loving (why wasn't that a single ? ). when you take into account all the covers and goon interludes as well there , that was the start of my musical and cultural education, I completely wore out the 2 cds.

I don't think I heard the BBC album until 98 or 99. I certainly didn't get it when it came out, because it came out a year or so before my beatlenerd brain kicked in...pretty much when they showed the anthology on TV. (in late 1995?) The first albums I bought, aside from Pepper and the blue album, which my dad already had, was the 1st anthology set and the red album, and then everything kind of exploded from there.
I don't even think I've listened to it more than 3 times in my life...except for the 'beatles intro' or whatever it was called, that I used as the intro for all of my beatle mixtapes for years..."I'm John, and I *too* play the guitar. And sometimes, I play the fool!"

Never heard about Twitchy's drunk driving arrest. I wonder if there are any pictures of him.
I guess I'll have to get the book(s) when they come out.
They should just release all the BBC stuff in a box. It comes out to about 10 cds. That material is the most enjoyable unreleased fab stuff there is.

there seems to be a new wave of beatles projects hitting the beach at the moment: movies, documentaries, books galore. one story that hasn't been picked up on, though, would make the best beatles film, in my opinion. the "george visits america before the group makes it over there" story.
think about it. when george visits this little town he's there for a month or so and he's hanging around with young musicians and becoming a local personality. and the beatles are huge in england. he has the first three singles with him and maybe also the first album! so the hip guys in this little town are being seriously introduced to the group months before the rest of the country. bit like a small town in england having elvis (with his sun studios 78s) stay for a month in 1954.
what a great movie that would make.

hehehe... now that's what you call a good read!
